Homeland Security

On September 11, 2001, America joined the growing family of nations exposed to homeland terrorism. We learned that unless we act to prevent it a new wave of terror, potentially involving the world’s most destructive weapons, looms in America’s future. Our enemies are vicious, hidden, and discrete. Today’s terrorists can strike at any place, at any time, and with virtually any weapon. It has therefore become essential that assets specific to the safety of the nation be immediately hardened.

The responsibility for securing our nation's critical infrastructure is a shared one. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal agencies have taken significant steps to enhance security in the last two years. Many security measures are recommended for implementation by the DHS, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). The Department will establish base-line security measures based on current industry best practices, and have conducted comprehensive risk-based vulnerability assessments to determine where current and future security resources must be directed.

The increased complexity of digital surveillance systems tasks providers to integrate a variety of products and platforms. A typical installation now involves multiple camera types, communications platforms and sensors.
