MWC Ash Recycling Project

Municipal Waste Combustor (MWC) ash is the residue produced when trash is burned to drastically reduce volume (up to 90%) and weight (up to 75%) and/or generate electricity or steam for heating. One of the greatest challenges in effectively managing solid waste is the disposal of MWC ash. Duos addresses this with its patented MWC ash recycling technology, an improved process for processing ash resulting from the mass burning of municipal waste. Includes a shear-force shredder for the size reduction of bulky items, impact cleaning of ferrous metal items, and rotary washer for cleaning non-ferrous metals. Further innovations include sending the ash through an air separation unit to remove paper, wood, plastic and other unburned debris before providing ash to an eddy current separator for non-ferrous metal removal. The resultant ash which is essentially free of ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals, unburned material and unshreddables is then treated to immobilize certain heavy metals thus creating the aggregate material AggRite®. Ash is recycled through a closed loop in the process to increase removal efficiency of metals and the homogeneous nature of the recovered AggRite®.

Housed in a fully-enclosed facility, our technology utilizes state-of-the-art material separation and processing equipment to recovers valuable ferrous and non-ferrous metals and produces AggRite® a uniform and environmentally safe aggregate. AggRite® possesses the physical and chemical characteristics required for various commercial construction applications, including sub-base material, structural fill, and landfill cover.

Duos MWC Ash Recycling Technology incorporates a Human Machine Interface (HMI) using programmable logic controllers to drive its central motor control system. This fully automated system contributes to safe and efficient control of the ash recycling process.
