Today, voice and data can share a single network, permitting a substantial cost reduction. Companies with multiple offices, locally or in multiple countries, usually support their own frame relay or leased line networks for data transfer. Voice over IP allows telephone calls to be transferred across these lines, enabling phone calls to be made over internal or virtual private networks instead of high cost PSTN. Essentially the voice rides for 'FREE' whether the call is to a local or international office. The cost of making international phone calls is also reduced, since offices abroad can allow their users to dial out at the cost of a local or standard rate call.
